SIMONETTE JoANN (BYERS) Age 84, of Coraopolis, formerly of Aliquippa, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2017, from Good Samaritan Hospice House. She was born in Aliquippa on June 29, 1932, to the late Dewey and Mildred (Oaks) Byers. On September 3, 2009, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James R. Simonette. In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Don and Wilmer Byers. Beloved and cherished mother of Richard Simonetti of Moon Township, Jeffrey Simonetti with whom she made her home and mother-in-law of Dawn Simonetti; sister of Elizabeth “Betty” Zarnich and Arthur Byers, both of Hopewell; well-loved grandmother of Alexis, Angelina, and Aurora. JoAnn was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church and Christian Mothers where she was former treasurer. For 15 years, she was manager and cook for Cornell Cafeteria. JoAnn will be remembered for her kindness. She would do anything for another. She will be greatly missed. Visitation Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at COPELAND'S CORAOPOLIS, 867 Fifth Ave., where prayers will be recited on Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. STARZL THOMAS E., MD, Ph.D Age 90, born in Le Mars, Iowa to Rome and Anna Laura Starzl on March 11, 1926 and passed away on March 4, 2017 in Pittsburgh. Dr. Starzl is the beloved husband of 36 years of Joy Starzl; father of Timothy Starzl (Bimla); and the late Rebecca Starzl and Thomas F. Starzl; grandfather of Ravi Starzl (Natalie); cousin of Bob Starzel (Mary Beth); son-in-law of Ollie Conger; brother-in law of Carlos Conger (Glenda) and Julie Jackson (Terry); uncle of Karla Conger, Dena Rees (Larry), Leandra LeBlanc (Quincy), Alex Dietrich (Michael) and Nolan Jackson (Luciana) and brother of Marnie Starzl; in passing he joins his parents and his siblings, John Starzl and Nancy Starzl. There will be no visitation. A memorial service, which is open to the public, will be held at Heinz Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 1:00 pm. SACCO MARCO F. Famous Restaurateur Passes - Marco Francis Sacco passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 3, 2017, after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen Pauline "Paula" Sacco; stepson, Michael Elden; and granddaughter, Lucy Sacco. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Anna (Bianco) Sacco; and son, Frank Andrew Sacco. Marco was born in Pittsburgh, the city he loved so much, on January 7, 1930. He will be remembered for his numerous business ventures, including his most famous restaurant, Piccolo Piccolo at 1 Wood Street, a favorite with locals as well as visitors, and often frequented by the rich and famous. He served in the U.S. Army and lived in Whitehall for 55 years. He will be missed by all for his humor and generosity. Friends will be received at the JOHN F. SPRAGUE GEORGE LEE, Sr. Age 97, of Penn Hills, was born in Pittsburgh on June 13, 1919. He is survived by Bertha Christy Sprague, his loving wife of 74 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Prettyman Sprague and Lee A. Sprague and his sister, Gladys Malcomson Stout. George was the father of three children, George, Jr. (Mitzi) Sprague of Jacksonville FL, Carol J. Sprague of Penn Hills, and Shirley Sprague (Paul) Johnson of Allison Park. Also seven grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Marsha, Michelle, Josh, Brad and Drew; also seven great-grandchildren; and his loving nieces and nephews. George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle who loved his family and never met a stranger. He was an executive with National Supply Company in the 1940's and 1950's and then followed in his father's footsteps to become a builder. George built over 200 homes in Penn Hills in the eastern suburbs, the last of which he completed at age 86. George and Bert were active members of the Rosedale United Methodist Church. In addition, George was a member of F&AM Infinity Lodge #546 and of Syria Shrine. SALVADOR ANTHONY “TONY” MICHAEL, Jr. Age 89, of Dravosburg, formerly of Glassport, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017. He was born August 9, 1927, in Glassport to the late Anthony M., Sr. and Laura (Craig) Salvador. He is survived by sons, Anthony M. (Lois) Salvador III of White Oak, Vincent G. (Kathy) Salvador of North Irwin, Howard G. (Lisa) Salvador of Boston, MA; daughters, Sharon A. Karch (Lucian) of Pembroke Pines, FL, Patricia L. Salvador (Charles) of McKeesport, Sara E. Salvador of Kenneth City, FL; significant other, Mary Ann Pici of Versailles; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by wife, Anne M. (Laird) Salvador; brother, Howard Salvador; sisters, Ellen Tambella and Betty Corletti. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 during WWII. Upon discharge, he became a reservist and was reactivated during the Korean War. He was part of the Atlantic Fleet, during both periods of service, aboard the USS Currituck and USS Worcester where he was a storekeeper/trainer. Tony was a member of the Dravosburg United Methodist Church where he was a Trustee, usher, and member of the Methodist Men. He also enjoyed spending his leisure time ballroom dancing. He retired from Copperweld Steel Company in Glassport, was a member and past officer of United Steelworkers Union Local 1407, a past commander of American Legion "Burt Foster" Post 361 in McKeesport, and a member of American Legion Post 701 in White Oak. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at I.M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 203 4th Street, Dravosburg, PA 15034. MILLER REA P., Jr. Age 74, on March 4, 2017, of Jefferson Hills, PA, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Rea was the son of the late Dr. Rea P. Miller, Sr. of Elizabeth, PA and Judith (Johnson) Miller of Mt. Sterling, KY. Beloved husband of 42 years to Pamela (O'Brien) Miller; proud and loving father to Craig J. Miller; brother of the late Sidney Miller; and survived by sister, Janet Neal; and nephew, Rea Neal (Cristal) of Kentucky; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers. Rea graduated from Avonworth HS in 1960. Rea achieved the honor of Eagle Scout as a young man, and went on to attend Washington and Jefferson College (1964) and the University of Michigan Law School (1967). Rea served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain, after serving an 18-month tour of duty in Vietnam. Rea was awarded The Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal. Rea was a partner in the Weller, Wicks and Wallace law firm in Pittsburgh (1970-1984) before joining Pittsburgh National Bank, later PNC Bank in the Personal Trust Department. He had extensive experience with estates and trusts and is a graduate of the College of Financial Planning. He retired as a Senior Vice President for PNC Wealth Management in 2016. Rea was also a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and its Probate and Trust Law Section. Rea enjoyed golf, science fiction books and movies, and had a dry sense of humor that everyone loved. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Seven Oaks Hospice Care for their wonderful care of Rea through the end. FULLERTON RUSSEL A. Russel passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2017, while on a hunting trip. Russel was born October 1, 1950, in Pittsburgh. He lived in Gibsonia for the last 35 years. He died doing what he loved. Russ was a retired ironworker, Union 527. He was a loving and devoted husband to Joanne (Klysz) Fullerton; the most devoted and loving son of Violet Fullerton and the late Albert “Whitey” Fullerton; father of two daughters, Melanie (Kevin) Wisneski and Tina (Paul) Fritch. He left behind five grandchildren, with two of them being his best hunting buddies.
