ELLENBOGEN ALEXANDER Of Pittsburgh and Highland Beach, FL, on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, peacefully with his loving wife, Margie, of more than 65 years by his side, a few weeks shy of his 92nd birthday. Also survived by his daughters, Joan (George Handelsman), Lynn (Steve Safran), Nancy (Mitchell Feldman); and his grandchildren, Shellie Handelsman, Nicole and Tom Safran, and Zach, Tyler and Lexi Feldman. Preceded in death by his son, Tom; his sister, Liesl Blockstein; his brother-in-law, Bill Blockstein; and his parents, Joseph and Eva Ellenbogen. Alex earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh at the age of 19, followed by a Master of Industrial Engineering degree at Columbia University. Alex worked in the steel industry, including US Steel, before becoming a CPA and working with his father and then daughter at Crawford Ellenbogen. Alex had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing opera as well as popular tunes. He played the violin and piano and also enjoyed hiking, bowling, and playing tennis. Alex authored and published several works of fiction in his retirement. In his younger days, he worked as a lumberjack. Alex was also quietly active in the community, giving his time, talent and treasure.  He never hesitated to help someone in need and expected nothing in return. Above all, his family was his priority and all moments together were cherished, whether it was dinner each evening, a picnic in the park, or a family vacation. Alex had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke, especially if it was really long, and he was telling it! The family is forever grateful for the exceptional compassion and care provided by Three Rivers Hospice. Interment was private. HAPPE H. KEVIN Age 61, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a loving and devoted father to his three sons, Nathan of Bozeman, Montana, Robert and Leo both of Omaha; and "Grandpa Kevin" to his grandson, Keegan Happe of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Kevin earned his postdoctoral degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He had a long and distinguished career achieving tenure in the field of Pharmacology at Creighton University as a neuroscience researcher and associate professor. Kevin was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Evelyn Campbell Happe and Edward E. Happe, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Karin Strong-Boag. Kevin is survived by his siblings, Krista Hartline, Edward Happe III (Dang), Kimberly Fritz, and Robert Happe all of Pittsburgh, Michael Happe (Kereen) of Denver, and Lou Ann McStay, former wife and mother of his children. Kevin is fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. SIMPSON JOHN McCLELLAND Passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 1, 2017. He was born February 22,1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Janette Graham and John McClelland Simpson. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor “Ellie” of 64 years; daughters, Chris O'Connor (Bryan), Pittsburgh, PA, Sue Ely (Ty), Washington D.C. and Debbie Jarson (Scott), Paradise Valley, AZ; his grandchildren: Sara O'Connor, Kate Waltemire (Rick), John O'Connor (Marie), Christy Tiboris (Peter), Laura Seals (George), Chelsea Batra (Taresh), Alice Ely, Alex Jarson (Erica) and Andrew Jarson; and great-grandchildren, Jackson O'Connor, Finnley O'Connor, Caden O'Connor, Eleanor Waltemire, Amelia Waltemire, Dessa Tiboris, George Seals and Tyler Seals. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ann Rice and Janet Bernhardy. John attended Mt. Lebanon High School and graduated from St. James prep school in Hagerstown, Maryland. In August of 1946, he entered Dartmouth College. He enlisted in the Army in March of 1947 and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan serving in General MacArthur's Honor Guard. In the fall of 1947, he returned to Dartmouth where he studied history and political science, graduating in 1950. In his senior year, he met and fell in love with Ellie and was married in 1952. John worked in advertising and in the Steel Industry, becoming President of Bloom Engineering Co. He was a member of Longue Vue Club and the Duquesne Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Terravita in Scottsdale, Arizona. Vacationing in the Phoenix area since 1964, they moved to AZ full time in 2000. John was a devout Christian serving as Clerk of Session at Bower Hill Community Church in Mt. Lebanon, PA, a Deacon and an ordained Elder at Southminster Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and an active member of Pinnacle Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, AZ. He was personally dedicated to his family, faith, and country. A constant student of history, he retained a love for reading, golf and travel. He was a generous and giving person who counted all he met as a friend. His ready smile and bright laugh will be missed by many, his sincere, yet easy-going manner made him loved. ERICKSON RICHARD DANIEL Age 72, of Bethel Park, died at his home on Monday, February 27, 2017. Rich was born and raised in East Liberty and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany while serving in the U.S. Army. He was a very proud employee of the Union Railroad for 36 years before retiring on February 28, 2005. Rich was preceded in death by his mother, Grace; and his brother, Fred. He is survived by his adoring wife, Kelly; and their cherished sons, Jason (Michelle) and Noah (Jodie). Rich was the best buddy Grandpa of Nolan (8) and Grayson (6). When they were very young, Rich taught his two favorite little guys how to cast their fishing lines. Grandpa taught them well; they will never go fishing without thinking of him. Rich also leaves behind his beloved sister, Jane Remly; his brothers-in-law, Lloyd Remly, Ed and Pat Gallagher and Pat Panzarino; and sisters-in-law, Eileen Gallagher and Kathie Panzarino. Rich is also survived by six nieces and four nephews. Per Rich's wishes, there will be no viewing or service. Interment will be private. Professional services were trusted to THOMAS M. KOEPKE JOHN F., Jr. Age 92, of Friendship Village, Upper St. Clair, died on February 5, 2017. John graduated from Peabody High School, after which he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served in the China Burma India Theater during World War II. After completing military service, he graduated from Carnegie Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career as an engineer with the Pennsylvania Transformer Company/McGraw Edison in Canonsburg, and continued with the company for over 40 years until his retirement. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Catherine; his son, John F. Koepke III (Nanci) of Dayton, Ohio; and his daughter, Carol Koepke Tu'ua, (Bob) of Maui, Hawaii. He was the proud grandfather of Erin E. Koepke, of Washington, D.C. and Lauren Koepke Carey (Matthew) of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Koepke, Sr. and Annabelle Koepke; and his sisters, Ruth Blohm and Ethel Fulton. Born December 24, 1934, he was the devoted husband of 62 years to Sandy Bordone Bayer; father to Debbie (Eugene) Rebholz, Benny (Paul) Kruger, Cindy (Jeff) Reiland, Renee (Keith) Gruendl; brother Earl “Rusty” Schuckman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Bayer; and his brother, Robert. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Bud proudly served his union for over 50 years and was a Member of Brick Layer & Allied Craft Workers Local 9, Local 26, and Local 31, and proudly served as Union President for many years. NISHIK RUTH LORRAINE Age 82, of New Sewickley Twp., passed away surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Born June 14, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Earl and the late Margaret McDonough Simmers. Ruth was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church where she formerly served as a teacher's aide for the school. She married Robert Edward Nishik, on July 10, 1967 and they enjoyed almost fifty years of marriage. Ruth and Bob loved to square dance and carried that love on for forty years. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Robert “Bob” Nishik; two daughters, Susan Nishik (Brian Munier) of Mars, and Mary Nishik of New Sewickley Twp.; and her furry companion Lilly.
