MARTIN CAROL E. (SZEKELY) Age 58, of Trafford, passed away with her family by her side in her home on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Carol was born on December 19, 1958, the daughter of Gerald and Janet (George) Szekely of Penn Twp. Carol was a graduate of Penn Trafford High School Class of 1977 then graduated from Penn State University Class of 1981. Carol taught in the Penn-Trafford School District and was currently with the Yough School District Middle School, teaching Family and Consumer Sciences. She was a member of the St. Regis Church Trafford where she taught Religious Education for many years. Carol was preceded in death by her infant son, Jason Martin. In addition to her parents, Carol was survived by her husband of 35 years, James D. Martin, Jr.; her sons, Jeffrey Martin (Brenna), Daniel Martin (Katherine) and Tyler Martin; her eight siblings, Gerald Szekely Jr. (Kim), Michael Szekely (Paula), William Szekely (Carolyn), Amy Szekely, Diane Califano (Albert), Jennifer Staranko (Scott), Andrew Szekely (Michelle) and Christopher Szekely (Jill); her father-in-law, James D. Jim was born in Elizabeth, NJ, to Elizabeth Laube and the late James III. He studied engineering at Penn State, and had a long, successful career as a mechanical engineer at Heinz. He was a loyal Penn State, Steelers and Pirates fan, an appreciator of sports cars and motorcycles, a history buff, a hobbyist who loved to work with his hands- woodworking and making models - and a man who treasured a nice day at the beach. Jim is survived by his wife, Diana; children, James V (Jody), Ida D. JACOB MARGARETE (KRAUS) (BLUM) A longtime resident of the Monroeville area, passed away March 2, 2017, at her home. Born in 1932 in Wurzburg, Germany, Margarete completed certification of in-home childcare services in the 1950's. She is loved and respected by the German community known through her food demonstrations at McGinness Sisters, East Pittsburgh Sangerbund (now defunct), and Teutonia Mannenchoir on the Northside. She was a loyal supporter of the Lutheran Church. Margarete was the daughter of the late Elisabeth Agnes Eckert and Anton Kraus of Wurzburg, Germany. She immigrated to her adopted homeland, America with her mother and second husband, John Blum. She served for many years on the Republican Committee of Pittsburgh serving with Patriotism and pride in America. Margarete was the devoted wife of the late Walter L. Jacob for 56 years living their early years in Wilkinsburg. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Robert and wife, Jeannine of Nevada; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her many friends and throughout the community where she was always a bright light to everyone to whom she came into contact.
