GARMAN GEORGE G. Age 83, Bellevue, PA resident, George Garman, passed away at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Born George Gene Garman on March 21, 1933, to W.C. Garman and Cecil Washburn Garman in Hillsboro, OH, he grew up helping with the family dairy business. He graduated in 1951 from Hillsboro High School lettering in basketball, a sport he would follow, including a leisure activity refereeing intramural basketball games. After four years serving his country in the Air Force, George attended Ohio State University followed by a career with the Ohio Department of Transportation as an Asphalt Research Analyst in Marietta, OH. Mr. Garman had a beautiful tenor voice and joined the Parkersburg, WV First Methodist Church choir where he met and married Jeanne Kathryn Tuttle in 1962. The couple enjoyed 53 years of a partnership underpinned by a profound respect, and a mutual love of reading and music. Mr. Garman was an active participant in the VFW and a loyal contributor to veteran charities including Korean War Veterans, Vietnam Veterans and Wounded Warriors. About Mr. Garman, his daughter noted, He was a simple man
bright, humble and good, funny as could be. He cared little about even the ordinary possessions most people require. My mother meant the world to him; their existence was simple and graceful. He treasured his family and Hillsboro roots and often recalled the Ohio days speaking with fondness and admiration of his three brothers and sister and their offspring, his parents and dog, Jerry. Since his wife's passing in October 2015, he lived with his daughter and son-in-law in Pittsburgh's North Hills where he enjoyed the surroundings, deer and birds, watching Pirates, Steelers and NBA, reading and doting on Pressley, the family Corgi. Grieving Mr. Garman's passing are a daughter, Mariellen Garman Ramsdell and son-in-law, Paul Ramsdell, of Wexford, PA; and many friends and surviving family members. He was preceded in death by brothers, Jack Garman, Walter Garman, Dane Garman; and sister, Mona Garman Pearce; niece, Jan Garman Looman; and nephew, Mike Garman. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Jewel Garman; and nephews and nieces, Joy Garman Remley, Dr. James J. Pearce, Gary Garman, Jeff Garman, Cindi Pearce, Bruce Garman, Greg Garman, Linda Garman Speakman and David Pearce. Arrangements by SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
