MURRER ROBERT LEE Robert "Bob" Lee Murrer, age 84, went to join our Lord on April 10, 2016. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 10, 1931, and lived in Mt. Lebanon until leaving for Penn State graduating in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science and minors in Economics and English. After serving his country in the Army (1953-55), he settled in Sewickley, PA where he met and married his wife, Maria. Together they raised five children, Ingrid Borah (Michael), Robert "Lee" Murrer, Jr., David (Pamela) Murrer, Erick (Sherri) Murrer, and Daniel (Maria Emilia) Murrer; he had 14 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Albert A. and Mildred (Oberkofler) Murrer; brother, Albert A. Murrer, Jr.; and sister, Mildred Klindworth. While at Penn State, Bob was selected to be the equipment manager of the football team where he first met Joe Paterno who was serving as an assistant coach; with this service he earned a football letter and became a devoted member of the Letterman's Club. Thereafter, Bob rarely missed a Penn State football game whether it was on a transistor radio as he worked in the garden, recorded on videotape, or as a season ticket holder. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Bob went to work for his father at Murrer & Phillips (later Murrer and Company) selling insurance and real estate and developing property. Bob was a member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) and had worked in residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, investment, and rural farm land property appraisals. He took over Murrer and Co. after his father's passing (1971) and later acquired the Real Estate Statistical Service now known as RealSTATs. Bob's memberships included the Greater Pittsburgh Board of Realtors, Pennsylvania Realtors Association, the National Association of Realtors, Rotary International, and a charter fellow of the American Institute of Corporate Asset Management; he also served on the Quaker Valley school board. His honors include election to the presidency of Western PA Chapter #13 of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and election to the Governing Council of American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. He served as an expert witness in Allegheny and Beaver Counties on real estate matters testifying before boards of review and juries. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, corny wit, and a collection of "Bob Murrer-isms". Visitation will be held 5-7p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016, at COLE FUNERAL HOME in Sewickley, PA. A Mass will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at St. James in Sewickley, PA with burial in Sewickley Cemetery. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
